28 Jul 2009

River Radio is just weeks away from launching on-line. This brand new station will celebrate everything that makes the area great. The brain child of local presenters John Storey and Neil Newton, River Radio will be unashamedly red and blue in its take on life, seeing the world through Scouse eyes.

The emphasis will be very much on local personalities, with well known household names signing with the station. John Storey and Neil 'News' Newton will present 'The Big Show'whilst local favourites Johnny Kennedy and Wally Scott pair up to bring their unique form of humour to the airwaves.Liverpool lad Billy Nelson also joins the team from Setanta Sports to make his radio debut. The station is also very keen to find and train new talent.

The team at Mersey Media, the company behind River Radio, say the internet launch is only the first stage of their long term plan. Managing Director John Storey explains "Wi Fi radio is the future of British broadcasting, it really will change our listening habits for good. Here at River Radio we wanted to be one of the first stations in the area to take advantage of the latest technology. Whether you're listening in Bootle or Bolivia, Scousers across the globe will be able to experience a taste of home at the click of their mouse."

Mersey Media is a Community Interest Company. All profits made by the venture will be invested back into the community, to improve the lives of its residents. Using community radio, media training and the arts as a tool, the broad aim of the company is to contribute to regeneration and improved community cohesion and capacity. Mersey Media received a start up grant from the Stepclever programme which has enabled them to start broadcasting.
