This week saw children from All Saints Catholic Primary School in Anfield visiting the Smoothie Express bar in Clayton Square Shopping Centre, to find out from owner Mark Paddocks just what’s involved in running your own busy healthy drink bar; and in the process learning how to make the perfect smoothie.
The pupils were looking for some expert advice as they are soon to open their own school smoothie bar - ‘Groovy Smoothie’ – which is being funded by local regeneration agency Stepclever, to enable the children to develop their business and entrepreneurial skills.
The enterprising children listened to Mark as he explained how he got started in the healthy eating and drinking industry and just what’s involved in running a smoothie bar. The children then had the chance to ask questions before trying their hand at making their own healthy drink.
Having mastered the art of making the perfect smoothie the children worked in groups to create new recipe’s of their own, choosing ingredients, names, price’s and designing posters to advertise them. The winning smoothie - the ‘Fruity Explosion’ - was selected by Mark and is to be available to purchase for a limited time.
Joanne Rodgers a teacher at All Saints said ‘The visit was really useful and children picked up a lot valuable tips on how best to run their own smoothie bar, and the complementary smoothie and a fruit salad also went down very well with all of us!’
