After working in customer relations for many years, Rhonda Carney knew she wanted to change her career, but didn’t know where to start.
Wanting the independence and freedom that being self-employed would bring was attractive to Rhonda, but, like many others in this situation she was sceptical and afraid of making the jump from a secure income. But the biggest stumbling block was having no idea what to do!
It was when she started receiving encouragement from friends and family, to try doing what she does best and more importantly enjoys: making specialised cakes.
After receiving advice and guidance from Stepclever, Rhonda realised that becoming self-employed was a realistic option. Within only a few months, the first cake showroom was opened.
Now, Off Your Cake, is going from strength to strength with Rhonda receiving excellent feedback from her customers and with proposals to link with local colleges to provide placements and employment opportunities for local residents.
Rhonda says “The best decision I’ve ever made was to set this business up. I love to go to work each day and enjoy the one to one interaction with the customer and designing that cake that will that will help make their celebration even more special.
“My next step is to employ 2 part time workers from my local area: my determination and drive have helped me succeed thus far and the business is already growing much faster than I could have ever imagined.
“Stepclever have given me the ability to realise the dream I had could become reality: they guided me to reach my target and the showroom I have is thanks to them.
“My future looks extremely bright within this industry. I’m building my reputation and loving my new found independence.”
