What WILL we do
Stepclever aims to engage and inspire local people in North Liverpool and South Sefton so they can fulfil their business dream.
The aim is to create 500 new businesses, 1500 new jobs and to improve the business survival rates in the area.
Not only will entrepreneurial aspiration, ambition and ability be developed and encouraged, but the programme will also generate investment and jobs.
This will achieve four key outcomes:
- Increase development of new businesses
- Support the growth and sustainability of local businesses
- Attract new investment and franchising opportunities and make use of local labour
- Develop commercially driven skills to boost enterprise
Our activities will include:
- Enterprise Managers to ensure all secondary and primary schools deliver enterprise education, including identifying opportunities to link enterprise learning to parents and guardians – a family learning approach
- A range of confidence building, motivational development activities for 16-25 year olds linked to local opportunities, sport, the arts and including maritime sector projects so young people become more aware of their own area and the opportunities within it
- Start-up advisers and enterprise facilitation managers, providing one-to -one advice relevant to individual needs, including pre-start-up support targeted at hard to reach groups including, women and the over-50s
- Business Aftercare Managers providing a range of free services and products for both small to medium sized businesses and large employers in the Stepclever area
- The creation of Business Partnerships to help employers to address crime and environmental degradation, and to improve relationships with regulatory agencies
By 2017:
- we will have raised the bar on enterprise awareness in schools
- business density and start-up rates will compare to those for Liverpool
- self-employment rates will be on a par with the Merseyside level
- create 1500 new jobs
- at least double the percentage of women in self-employment
- for those businesses we support, the rates of survival will grow – a springboard for the ever increasing prosperity of local residents, young and old, and our business community
